My Story

Welcome! I'm Alex. Bless this Mess began with a single female form sculpture in 2020. After taking a wheel throwing course, I purchased a bag of clay then took it home. I sat at my work table and played with a small ball of the yellow clay until it slowly became the one thing that is most familiar to me…my body. I didn’t have any expensive tools or extensive training in pottery, just those few wheel throwing classes up my sleeve and a very distinct drive to create something from nothing with my two hands.

Inspiration

Art has consistently drawn from inspiration, and for me, the female form is a significant muse in my ceramics. Inspired by artists such as Alexander Archipenko and Clementine Keith-Roach, I delve into the strength and elegance of women in my creations.

Each piece I create challenges the deeply ingrained societal pressure on women to shrink themselves--physically, emotionally and metaphorically.

In a world that often dictates how much space a woman should occupy, these forms stand boldly, unapologetic in their presence. The curves, folds and weight of the clay echo the resilience and power of the feminine body. Through sculpture, I reclaim space, offering a defiant, tactile reminder that fullness--of form, of existence, of expression--is not something to be diminished, but embraced and celebrated.
